ColorSync Utility

Most likely you have never heard of and definitely never used the ColorSync Utility built into macOS. The app is very nifty if you’re in the visual arts realm and provides information like the gamma of different color profiles as seen below.

2.6 DCI P3
2.4 Display P3
2.4 Color LCD (MacBook Pro Display)
2.222 BT.2020
2.222 BT.709
2.199 Adobe RGB
1.801 Generic RGB Profile
1.8 ROMM RGB
1 ACES CG Liner

Speaking of gamma, it’s interesting to note that ColorSync represents BT.2020 and BT.709 as 2.222 gamma. Though in practice all reference monitors working with these profiles will have the appearance of 2.4 gamma. Confusingly, ColorSync states that the native  ‘Color LCD’ profile for the MacBook Pro is 2.4, while the Display Calibrator says that the same profile has a Native Gamma of 2.2
