Ultra HD Premium™

The following are the 5 characteristics of an Ultra HD Premium image.

High Dynamic Range (HDR)
To bear the Ultra HD Premium™ logo, brightness and black level performance must range from either a minimum of 0.05-1,000 nits or 0.0005-540 nits.

Let's look at this statement. An LED backlit LCD screen will be able to hit 1000 nits but will 'bloom' while trying simultaneously to reproduce a very dim 0.05 nits. An OLED screen such as the LG B7A has no problem with a completely black (0.0 nits) pixel right next to a peak brightness 1000 nit pixel since there is no backlight to cause blooming. Further more, 0.0005 nits is impossible with an LCD screen because even with local dimming the backlight is never completely turned off and will always create a very dark grey where black should be.

Wide Color Spectrum
To bear the Ultra HD™ Premium logo, single input must use BT.2020 color representation with display reproduction of more than 90% of P3 colors.

Create a pure red photo in the sRGB .ICC color space. Now do the same in the P3 .ICC color space. given that you are viewing on a compatible wide color screen such as any 2017 iMac, iPhone or iPad, you'll see just how much more saturated or 'pure' the P3 red (especially) is.

4K Ultra HD Resolution
To bear the Ultra HD™ Premium logo, device manufacturers must meet a minimum display resolution of 3840x2160 pixels.

Resolution appears to be the most widely understood aspect of Ultra HD/4K. Probably because we all like reading numbers and it's simply 4 times the pixels as 1920x1080 Full HD.

Color Bit Depth
To bear the Ultra HD™ Premium logo, a minimum 10-bit color depth must be supported.

Unfortunately bit depth is often confused with wide color. Wide color describes how pure/saturated a color can be displayed. Bit depth describes how many shades are available between said purist color and black. For example, 256 shades of pure red through black with 8-bit and 1028 respectively with 10-bit.

Immersive Audio
For the best UHD experience, next-generation Immersive Audio is recommended.

errrrrr yeah not such detail on the 'immersive audio' front.
