macOS 10.13 Beta 2 (17A291j) HEVC Support
Today Apple released the second Beta of their upcoming operating system. Quicktime X now provides the option of exporting in 4K HEVC (H.265), the next generation video codec that provides a 40% reduction in bandwidth while maintaining the same image quality. The HEVC files work fine on the new 2017 MacBook Pro but do not want to play on the 2015 iMac. Both the Kaby Lake and Skylake processors on each machine support 8-bit HEVC acceleration at the hardware level so it is difficult to pinpoint the exact reason for this difference. Beta releases will be Beta's.

The ability is there, just not quite ready for all machines.
