HEVC and AVC compared

Objective:
Compare visual quality of 5Mbps encodes of HEVC (H.265) and AVC (H.264) at 3840x2160p59.94 (UltraHD).

Visual Comparison:


Conclusion:
HEVC@5Mbps has a high level of artifacts but remains useable.
AVC@5Mbps is completely unusable with distracting amounts of blocking, blurring, banding and aliasing.

Benefits:
HEVC provides the ability to stream video at half the bitrate while retaining similar visual quality as AVC or produce twice the quality at the same bitrate.
